    This may have already been said but co-partnerships with other websites in your niche. 


    e.i. - If you are in the dating niche and have a cool product you created then find related \ hubs in your niche and offer to send them a copy of your new product to review. Make sure to include a press kit which includes photos, a good write up on the product, etc. Do all the work for them so they have some unique and compelling content to publish. This works because for starters, they are referring you pre qualified traffic to your site for free and everyone wants fresh content. The trick is you must target sites that have decent traffic or your exposure will be minimal. An extra benefit is you will be gaining an authorative link that will boost your SERPS as well.

    Best ways outside of Google to built traffic:


    -  Participate in plently of blog comments & forums - particuarly if its a forum where newbies are having problems & issues.  You then offer them helpful advice & suggestions.  Have your money site in the signature box at the bottom (but dont draw attention to this in the main comments section or ask for folk to click!  That's just spamming in my opinion!)


    -  Video Marketing is also a great way of getting traffic.  People respond more to videos than writing...  That being said....


    -  ...Article marketing still has its place & will still generate exposure to your site.


    -  Sign up for big affiliate programs like;  Warrior, MunchEye & JVPro...  Get affiliates to promote your product & offer generous rewards/incentives.


    -  Social media of course.  Build you audience on Facebook/Twiiter/Google + & intereact with them.  Make them aware of your new product launches!

    There are lots of methods to generate traffic other than Google. Because it's right that we are over reliant on Google for organic search results, but we can rely only on it for the purpose of generating traffic. Because if we need to generate traffic, then we need to look for the sites where we can interact with the users most, and such sites nowadays are social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.

    Interesting question. I honestly have never even thought of trying them for ads.  Thinking about the site I would imagine that success would be somewhat niche specific and you would probably be better off going for a two step process of collecting leads and then selling rather than selling directly on the site. Just a guess on my part though......

    Sometimes I have a link in my signature to a product. If I do assume it is an affiliate link and I might make a couple of bucks off it...................................

    I like to be very direct with my outreach if im not relying on Google

    I find its almost immediate traffic and higher conversions, just a lot more effort!


    Im advertising, but not in my niche, rather where my ideal clients would be going so gvt sites etc


    Im performing live demos and seminars for groups, even if they send referals themselves it works much better


    Im incredibly active in forums, groups and blogs (30% of traffic comes from it at the moment)


    I network quite a bit when I can


    Linkedin groups works insanely well-especially as all comments are emailed to all members ;)

    The trick really is to constantly do what drives traffic without too much reliance on the platform if possible

    Then build content to optimise for that platform of course

    I also build out video/audio/pdf/slideshow/infographic of all content
    Not so much for links but because some users prefer 1 medium to another

    Its the same message, just some ppl prefer it via image/podcast etc

    Personally I have found the very best TARGETED TRAFFIC SOURCES so, effective and higher conversion traffic which is very important to be:


    In no particular order....


    > FORUMS


    > SOLO ADS (so using very good lists of experts and promoting to that list) 

    > Facebook Ads (EVERYONE IS ON FACEBOOK targeting is fairly easy using their latest tools)





    NOTE: Having a RESPONSIVE LIST is KEY to success online so always aim at using this traffic to build a list first.  


    Build the list using free items of high perceived value and write keyword rich articles and blog posts. And blog posts are great as there is TRUST so this breaks down the barrier and creates better conversions.


    Oh and, you may get to the point where you want to outsource some of this when you are really busy, try fiverr.com (basic standard) or use elance to help you in another traffic area if you have money to spend.

    I would agree that you have to decide upon your strategy depending on your niche. I mean the fb and google ads + youtube don't work for conversion (in my niche that is), but they work for driving traffic. This is not what we are really going for at the moment, so other techniques are needed. Might sound trivial lol, but ranking by proper keywords converts the best  ;)

    The most of traffic coming to my blog is from Facebook and Instagram and from my guest blogs. But I would like to get more organic traffic from search.

    You can rank in other search engines, such as Baidu, Yahoo, Bing, Ask.com, etc. or you can get visitors via direct links from directories or anchor texts.

    Also, sites like Reddit has helped me a lot to build traffic.

    Forum marketing can be very effective in almost any niche and it can come in several flavours:

    - Sig links
    - Classifieds
    - Banners
    - Co-promotion with forum owner/s
    - Creating/buying a forum

    Has anyone had success traffic-wise with podcasting directories, powerpoint presentation sites or document sharing sites?

    What do you think about Social channel? I believe Quora and other kind of social like TUmblr, fb, twitter,etc. could be a long-term solution for getting traffic.

    By Social Channel are you talking about a specific site or just social sites in general? Quara and the other Q&A sites can be a good source of traffic it you make sure you give good answers and keep your account from looking spammy. Like anything else you have to put some work into them to get good results.
