There has been a lot of talk the last few days about whether homepage backlinks are as powerful as they once were or whether they can lead to a penalty on your site.  This is just a quick statement to explain where Troy and I stand on the matter and to comment on what we are seeing from our side.

One thing is clear to us and that’s that a mediocre product will not do – And we are striving to make BHB as powerful and robust as possible.

With the unique opportunity of managing a wide range of marketers we have noticed that there are differences between the few customers who get penalised and those who continue to thrive...

The common theme is that customers who have dropped in rankings have similarities such as new sites, thin sites, and backlink profiles thick with low quality links such as forum profiles and blog comments.  There is also a lack of anchor text variation across all of these mass linking methods.

Ever-strong sites are built out and established, aren’t peppered with mass PRNA profile links, and have a less obvious link profile.
There are also customers who are part of homepage backlink networks that get deindexed and never replaced - this will knock a previously strong site into nothingness if the links aren’t quickly replaced.

BHB are looking to work with you to make sure these issues never become a problem for you and your sites.  If you have checked some of our links recently you’ll notice that we are evolving the sites to appear more and more natural to both people and the bots.  We are feeding Google worthwhile content to give it only good reasons to keep our sites in the index – working for you.  That’s the first step!

Next we’re going to adapt the way we spread links out across the network.  Where previously you shared a set of domains with a sub-set of customers, your links will now be spread out randomly as possible.  Don’t worry, you will always get the PR you paid for.

This random ordering and spread of links will remove any footprint Google may detect in future, lowering the risk of the domains falling out of favour with Google.

We also want to give you the opportunity to vary your anchor text for your URL.  This gives you the flexibility with how you structure your backlinks profile for maximum effectiveness.

Finally for customers with fresh sites we will give you the option to feather your link growth out to help mimic natural link building behaviour.

The majority of our customers are pumping along nicely – business as usual – but with some of the hysteria from the squeaky wheels I thought this was a great opportunity to share our goals and to listen to any feedback and concerns.

Hi guys - if you are after custom anchor text then you can either make a note on the order form or send us an email with your order details.  It's really worth taking advantage of and I think one trap many fall for - too much focus on the one keyword phrase.

We can even chuck in a few naked url links too to help promote more natural link building.
