Since there is no topic yet in this section, i thought i will start the ball rolling

I used to own a few high traffic sites before i get into the seo game. I have a CO.CC type site which gives out free domain names (mine was cw.cm -  alexa rank reach 20k at one point), an image hosting site (daily 18k unique visitors) and a file hosting site (daily 5 k unique visitors)

All these sites have something in common and that is they all use referral system to bring in traffic during the early stage.

For CW.CM, i use the same method as co.cc. So i was paying my affiliates 27cents per new member they refer to me. The cost of paying these affiliates is not much. Every payout request i get is less than $10. This method of getting traffic is really amazing. Within 3 to 4 months, my site cw.cm shot up in alexa rank from nowwhere to 2ok. Monetization i used was adsense and with that traffic, i get around $10 to 30 usd daily. Occassionally i can about $50 daily. Not to mention sometimes you get donation from people who wants to register free domains in bulk. Every month you can get about 100 usd in donation alone. All this without any effort on my part besides initial posting of this affiliate programs in forums. I also make use of this site to advertise my other services. Unfortunately i have to close the site down a few months ago due to scammers using the free domains for scamming purpose.

I bought my image hosting site from DP and this site has a unique referral system in place. I can set in the admin panel how much to pay my affiliates for bringing in traffic from any country. So for example i can set to pay my affiliates 2usd for every 1000 visitors they bring in, 1usd for every aussie visitors and maybe 2 usd for uk visitors. I then turn around install a traffic script which allows me to sell traffic and be a traffic supplier myself With the image hosting site, i can even sell adult traffic if i want to so monetization is not an issue. I also found out that an image hosting site is a great way to get your links indexed. How ? My users will post pics daily to my image hosting site and then they will go promote these urls to other social network sites. They will try very hard to promote the urls because they want to make money from sending visitors to me. They are in fact building backlinks to the urls of their pictures hosted on my site. So i insert links that i want to get indexed on these urls and viola , you have people building backlinks to your backlinks everyday I close down this site beginning this year when i run into some problem with my server getting hacked.

With file hosting site, i was paying my affiliates money for every thousand visitors they bring in who download the files they upload to my site. This is very common for file hosting sites but you can only do this for the initial period because this can get very expensive.  It does bring in alot of traffic and being a traffic supplier myself, i make money by selling ad space and traffic to other traffic suppliers. I can also get around $10 to 18 usd daily for running file hosting site. But you do get worried about your adsense account getting shut down. I sold off this site 6 months ago to concentrate on my seo link building business.

The thing i like with having  referral system is, you do not have to worry about google ranking you. If you need more traffic, you announce to your affiliates a higher payout. then almost immediately you can see traffic increase within a few days. You may point out that visitors are not targetted. Well its up to you to be creative in monetization with your visitors. One good monetization is to be a traffic supplier. There is always people out there who wants instant traffic to their sites.

So there is life without google and alot of folks who are not into seo, they are making money without worrying about google's algorithm

For both my image hosting and file hosting site, i was using dedicated server with unlimited bandwidth right from the start so i didn't really keep track of the bandwidth consume. I do notice my image hosting site cpu's load on my server is quite high.

I completely agree with you. Referral marketing is target marketing at its best. Many business owners miss this opportunity when it comes to getting a constant flow of referrals.

Hello fellows. I think the referral system has started increasing the internet traffic for those sites in a way such that the meber count touches a four digit number from 0 in just a week. Most of the websites have started to open up referral sharing options for the users so that they can also earn through that procedure.
