Hey guys, I have seen a lot of good info and quite a few thanks posts but very little usage of the Reputation button at the bottom right hand side of the posts.

I know the IP Board  setup is a bit different from the vBulletin setup that some us are used to seeing but there have only been 39 reps given out so far and 11 or 12  of them are ones I have done.  

If someone shares something good or gives good advice hit them with some friendly rep...............

It is easy to do and might encourage them to share more stuff and we all like that.

I get the basic premise of the thanks and rep buttons but can you please explain the practical use of it? I mean, what's the actual point? To show other, perhaps especially the newer members, who the people are to pay more attention to? Or do trades/sales with?

Well Generally it is nice to give someone a thanks or thumbs up if they share something nice or are helpful just like IRL. For instance Dan Henry shared a nice free PR checker he made for people to download, anybody that downloaded it and found it useful should give him a thumbs up on his contribution.

Now you could just post a thanks post but too many of them can clog up a thread/site. Not really a huge issue here yet but as we add more members and posts it will become  an issue.  Some forums I am on can get pretty nasty about useless thanks posts.

So from a practical standpoint it allows you to give someone a thumbs up or thanks without clogging up a forum with posts that really do not add anything to a thread.

Sorry for being a noob but how do we use the reputation button because I can't find a link to it....is the "Like this" button the same as the reputation?

IP Board does not have separate rep and thanks buttons like vbulliten does. You just use the like button instead for either one and you get one number instead of two.

Turns out we can "like"/rel ourselves. Is there no -rep feature?

Ohh that's what that button does . Now I know thanks. Can it be renamed or make it more relevant for people's eyes?

I want to clarify that this is indeed the "Like This" button? I was looking for something that said reputation on it but certainly can't find it. I'm used to the little icon in vBulletin which is obviously not going to be there.

In the very bottom left corner just below your post count there are a few grayed out buttons. If you hover over the one that looks like a Sheriffs Badge it says "Add to this user's reputation".

Now go ... distribute the wealth of knowledge that has been bestowed upon you this day!
