While you do need to be careful about what you believe he does let loose some good info. What I do is when listening to him is think about whether or not he would gain anything by lying about the particular subject. For example anything he says about types of links and link building I take with a large grain of salt but when he is talking about what happens when you move your site or how other sites on the same server affect you there is really no reason for him to be misleading.
Topics that cover activities where there can be a lot of manipulation are ones that you need to realize he will be quoting the company line whether it is true or not. Topics where that are really not open for manipulation are ones you can probably believe him.

Well said, it's all about self interest- and that's especially true for Google. This is definitely a valuable database of movies though- thanks for the post.

As far as Matt is concerned, I take what he sez cautiously. For technical stuff like mentioned above, yes I can believe him. When he starts in on SEO and links etc, I usually just hit the ignore button because we all know, he vaguely answers questions and you are usually left with what he didn't answer. In many cases, he simply avoids the question in a roundabout way.
Cheers

While I do agree that a lot of the info he puts out is worth listening to I do not think that being somewhat skeptical and keeping the fact that Google is looking out for Google first is a conspiracy theory.
That is why I think when listening to him you need to think about what if anything Google has to gain if you take his advice. It is the subjects where there is no gain for Google that I give what he says the most weight, those subject where he is spouting the company line I tend to ignore. Lets face it he has said plenty of things about link building that are not backed up by testing.
