I think competition is good when it comes to the Google monster, so I have just switched my homepage setting to Bing, every little helps.

I urge you to do the same.

The really interesting thing is that Google has lost 3% over the past year and 2% of that was in the last two months.

We will see what Google's reaction is going forward but I have to think that they may not be completely upset about this. A dropping market share will make the argument for anti-trust action much harder and if they stabilize at around 60% it is not really going to affect the bottom line, especially with them pushing more people to ppc.

I think here in this forum, we can find more experienced people.

It was quite common to find many post or article & forum thread against microsoft about some years before. MS became notorious for their IE-6, that was one of the root cause of the problem, why many web designers and developers started switching to firefox. Once firefox and chrome became popular, google inserted their search engine into Firefox and chrome, google started gaining the market share.

I hope, the same (what happened to MS) will happen to google, If they start irritating the web design & developers community.
    Lets see...how it goes.

I recently switched mine too. I happen to really like Bings results.

Moreover, as I posted in another thread Google's earnings are starting to flatten out and lag it's "peer group."  So one can only conclude that the changes being made in organic are really to help combat slumping earnings and market share rather then being purely about "user experience" as Amit, Cutts and all the Google propagandists would like you to believe.

This is really such great news. This is one way that we can diversify our traffic sources without having to do things like social media. I for one am not involved in any niches where social media is going to get much of a response. Being able to target Bing and bring in some extra traffic is great news and if they continue to grow, it will continue to be cost-effective. After all, if you're working to rank in Google, you are probably already ranking in Bing, and if not, adding a few new tactics should be all it takes to get you there in the end.

Is this 30% from the combination of the actual Bing site and Yahoo search, or just the Bing site?

Am I the only person who sees Bing as basically a Google-waiting-to-happen? It seems very little brother/big brother to me.

If I'm switching my default search engine, I'm going with DuckDuckGo.

If Bing ever becomes as popular as Google, people will hate them just as much eventually, and tell everyone to start using another search engine where their rubbish sites still rank.

I disagree, I think it all depends on how they handle their public relations. Google has had some pretty big screwups as of late like the changes in privacy, analyitics and in their algo. How about their claim of transparency?  Where they write all this gibbrish about changes to search on their blog that nobody can really understand.

If Bing can behave in a more responsible and  professional manner I think they could really give Google a run for their money.

I was surprised to read in that article that Microsoft is contemplating selling Bing to Facebook...I hadn't heard about that.  Does anybody have any insight into this?

Even bing becomes worser than google, google can't think that they are the only one who controls the internet search market. Since there is an opponent(bing) who is in the game as well. Keeping few more players(though they all are bad), will be better than the current situation IMHO.
