The collateral damage from this update is just incredible!

This site http://www.see.ed.ac.uk/drupal/about_site.html ranks #4 in Google UK for "buy viagra online" - completely irelevant, it's a school engineering website.

Based on quality information alone, ive beed doing a few random searches in bing and google and bing is usually the clear winner.
There are more examples then can be named!

One of my sites which has over 50 pages of unique, high quality content and is an authority site is now not in top 100 for all main keywords.

Google has awarded number #1 position to a 3 page MFA website which has 4 Adsense blocks on the home page. Way to go Google, great user experiance!

Re: The edu sites ranking for Viagra terms. It's very likely that they were hacked and then used to rank for those terms but now the schools have control of them again so all of the viagra stuff is gone, but rankings still there.

This is only a very small percentage of search.
Most punters out there think G is magical, and spam comes in cans.
Nothing is broken that needs urgent repairs.
G would not give a damn.
    This is only industry hype.
    Only we are noticing.

Hmmm, actually not really. One of my friends, who have no idea about SEO whatsoever told me today that the search results are so poor that he couldn't find what he was searching for.

That really does not change anything
I don't know how many searches a day are performed each day in Google. but it's a big number
Even if you multiplied your friend by 10,s of thousands it still would not make a difference to the overall number.
Most people will enter a search term if that does not supply the answer they will try another term.
Maybe the sharp ones will think this is odd, but no more.
They Certainly would not consider the possibility that the way google works is changing.

I'm not suggesting it will change anything, I was simply replying to your last statement "Only we are noticing". I'm pretty sure there are a lot of regular people/actual searchers who DO notice. :)

    Notice what ?
The heading in this thread is "The Serps are broken after Penguin"
    No they're not !
I have done heaps of searches today it still works.
Because one person notices something is not as accurate as it used to be.(never really was )
Is not going to make headlines.
    Nothing is Broken !
Google is still there still working still giving answers.
    Nothing is broken is all.

    Nothing is broken is all.

It's not all broken, nor is none of it broken. However, there are far MORE "broken" searches since the last round of updates. Results are still bouncing around, so even that should tell you that Google know there's still a lot to fix. On one keyword I target, a hacked site is steadily climbing through the ranks. It's a redirected site to a dodgy looking .ru page so it's a matter of time before Google do something about about that. It does amaze me that it can climb rankings so steadily and for such a competitive keyword, yet be indexed as long as 5 days ago. There's a lot of anomalies and quirks with this update to sort out. There are a few other results above me that would only frustrate a searcher using that particular keyword as they are largely irrelevant to the keyword. This is all inside the top 10 results by the way for this keyword. This is just one keyword, but examples abound. It's extreme to say "nothing is broken at all".

The thread from trafficplanet.com has moved up to #3 now, LOL. I still think Google has all messed up its ranking algorithm. This is the chance for Bing now. I am already researching keywords for Bing.
