I am a looking for a web based application that allows me to monitor SERP positions for keywords. I have tested SEscout and it's interesting, but reports of keyword positions do not seem to be very accurate. Anyone recommend any?

I've used SEScout for a while now. If you don't mind phantom ranking drops and the necessity of checking your rankings manually to see if they are accurate, it works great.

How do you make sure that positions are accurate or inaccurate? I'm asking because sometimes people would compare results from rank checkers to what they see from their local ip logged into their Google account and come to the conclusion that the rank checker is inaccurate.

What's your approach?

I am using Link Assistant Rank Tracker and the results are quite accurate. Also CleverStat Accurate Monitor for Search Engines is a good tool (and you can have it for free).

To be honest no, I haven't tried it. I usually prefer a one-time purchase rather than a monthly-based fee.
Also, does it permit checking for local Google(s)? For example, italianized Google?

Maybe I would consider them if they are really offering something that I cannot find on stand-alone software, like in-depth key comparison, ranking change notifications, ecc.

They provide in-depth key comparison, ranking change notifications, brandable SEO reports (in PDF or HTML format), keyword search volumens powered by SEMrush, daily rank tracking.

I also hesitated because it is not cheap. But it is so much more convenient than messing up with a desktop app and proxies.

No no it doesn't. It seems to be American Google and Bing and that's all.

AFAIK Microsite Masters is the best. The only drawback of this service is that they don't protect the password and the session with SSL (no https:// on their website)

Hi , Have you tried the SERPAnalytics tool . I am using this tool from past one month and found very interesting. It gives you daily monitoring report of your keywords, have different strategies both niche based and website based plus they have the their own SPY tool which helps you monitoring your competitors as well. It can be called a SERP monitoring tool , which can help you in various ways. Also they are much cheaper then other paid tools.

Well, I prefer using rank checker tool from SEOmoz. However, I have observed that many reputable SEO companies still rely upon manual checking of ranking positions, as they do not trust on tools and software products.
