I am new to seo and I want to know would this method work for link building. I want to create a widget that my users can put on their websites, and the widget is basically an iframe with src atribute to a special php page on my server that outputs the needed data and finally it also outputs the link back to my site. Would that link be considered as an internal link, couse it does come from my page , or would it be a considered a backlink from a site where the iframe is installed. thanks in advance

From my experience, google will consider it as a normal backlink. I have a bunch of iframe backlinks myself and they appear to be just like normal ones.

If I were you, I'd get that iframe on as many different sites as possible.

I dont understand how this can be true.
So basically, if I wanted I should be able to get a popup email capture box to rank for some simple text? It is an iframe, right? I just dont see it happening. How is google going to know to index the iframe text or iframe links?
Ive never been searching google and come across an iframe Instant Message box that is indexed in the serps.
Maybe Im misunderstanding.

This sounds great , thanks for the answer.
I guess if the other content in the iframe is related to the page I am pointing at, that could boost my ratings as well. Am I on the right track here? Also one more question , would you consider this link building method as "white hat" ?

If the webmasters install the iframe voluntarily it's definitely white hat, otherwise I'm not so sure.
Many wrodpress plugin developers include iframes which link back to their sites.
