I have noticed that on some landing pages at the bottom of the pages content they have either the latest news snippets from Google or some type of RSS feed relating to the niche which is updated regularly.
1. Does it help with SEO (apart from updating the landing page daily)
2. Any recommended plugins to achieve this on WP?

1) Yes it would help with SEO as long as the bot can see the content and that content is relevant to the page.
Why?
Because it is adding more relevant content and because it is refreshing the page.
2) I can't recommend a good WP plugin for it because I haven't used it on WP sites. I have used a script on other static HTML sites to give them more content and freshness.

Thanks for your input. I think your reasons are good enough for me and could really help in on page SEO.
I have a HTML site too if you could point me in the right direction I could use unless it was something you created yourself.

It just dawned on me that there is a common widget in Wordpress for showing RSS feeds that makes it super simple. If you want to mashup several different RSS feeds from different sites into one feed, you could use Yahoo Pipes.
