I use register compass as it does everything I need it to, often I won't spend time researching free options if I have something that works, my time is too valuable.

I agree with this. If the paid solutions provided something of value that expired domains didn't I might consider paying. The only thing I can think of they could improve on is the user interface. And honestly they all dont really excel in that either.
On a different note, when are you going to start a official thread here for your blog network?

Plenty of people still use DropDay, myself included, but it's not as good as Register Compass or FreshDrop.
I'm not even sure why I still use it instead of one of the others, to be honest.

I have got to be honest here and say no matter what service or software I used in the past I have always manually checked almost all the stats and most definitely for a fake PR. I don't trust any of them on that. I also have to be honest and admit that I have not found many of them to be significantly off. But I know Ima gonna do it anyways so....

Yes, you should always do a final manual PR check, indexing check, etc. before acquiring any domain but I found Dropday and Register Compass did a MUCH better job at filtering out the fake PRs to begin with. Otherwise, you'll waste a ton of time going over domains in the intial stage that should have been eliminated in the intial search process.

Fake PR is basically the 2nd thing I do.
1) index check
2) fake PR check
3) "dropped" check
I don't think it saves that much time but I do agree DropDay does a pretty good job at filtering them out.
