on blf there was a thread about sharing hosting accounts for greater ip diversity for index clusters or backlink purposes.

Is there anyone interested in doing this here?

Sounds liek a good idea in principle.  The problem comes when you have to start relying on IM type folks to be reliable.  This has proven to be an issue for me in the past.  Maybe if it's people you actually know and have met in person it would be a more viable idea.  Or, if someone really took the initiative and set up an application somewhere to keep things organized and keep track of who needs to do what exactly.  Again, good idea in principle.  I hope you are able to get something set up, just beware of people not being reliable.

both make valid points which is why I would not do it formal or large scale.  if some are interested in doing a 1 to 1 swap put your name here and I will hit you up.  If you fail to hold up your end of the bargain on a swap we are done, plain and simple.

I was wanting to achieve a similar result with having some websites on different IP to my others, so when I purchased 6 sites from a woman in Croatia I accepted her offer of lifetime hosting in one of her shared hosting accounts. Over a week ago the hosting account was suspended and I sent several emails to the woman and also contacted the hosting company. She has never replied and they say they can't let me have access to the accounts unless I get a court order!!!! I am the registered owner of the domains and NO I never had backups of the database :( My stupid mistake. I am just adding this to your thread in the hope that others won't be as stupid as me.........

I don't see the need for this myself.

If you have 20-30 domains, put them all on a shared server at godaddy, hostgator, or another big hosting co.  They put a lot of shared servers, with tens of thousands of domains on a single IP.  So your 20-30 are in a huge pool.

If your network is bigger, use another shared server.

For IP diversity, use aln, bmr, eln web 2.0 or other such.

Why does your IP diversity need to come from your own network?

Given if you pay annually for shared hosting you can get it for anywhere between $15-$30 per year I dont see why you would risk having someone else host your site.

Why does your IP diversity need to come from your own network

if you are getting all your links from the same places.  to all of your sites you would want diversity.  Otherwise it's silly.
