Let us talk about some "real start-ups" doing online marketing
Well,it looks like people have made it big by doing some "basic stuff".
ok! I think US guys must be heard about this company before and probably have used the service. AirBNB.

They made it by making "craiglist spamming" one of the key of their B-model.

Yeah I think scraping and spamming craigslist to create your own verticals is def the way to go. Especially if there seems to be a need to consolidate/augment and filter data.
In the AirBnB case its reviews, images a consistant UI/UX and curated experience.

Is it me or do I find it super annoying to locate NON-FAKE PR sites on dropday, godaddy auctions and the like... seems like a "seo dashboard" in the making.

Thanks for posting this! Doubt it would work anymore though since CL is so strict now.

Hi, yeah spamming is really effective 'before' but now it's a little bit difficult because of the fact that a lot of people were doing such things too :P If you try to use a tool it's gonna be a little more easy but your account is at risk of being blocked or being removed. So which is which? :o

Current and upcoming laws just make stuff like this short sighted and down right retarded.

I'm not denying any bottom line end results of what they or others have or still could achieve, and maybe the methods used are techincally legal the way they use them, but if that's the case, basing your business on soon to be made felony technicalities is madness...As far as the scrape/spam bit goes your just asking to go to prison

If that happens there goes not only the biz rep you built that way, but your profits as well in legal fees and potential lawsuits

Money aside, back to the prison part, you obviously don't wanna go anywhere close to a federal prison...trust me when I say that you're way better off and will save yourself a lot of grief by applying your hard work and genius to more positive, long term promotions

I think the perfect example for case studies such as this are JcPenny's and Overstock dot com which where multi million dollar companies that used spam techniques to rank, link mining is what they did...but in the end, it all depends on what Big G wants to do.  Luckily for them, the two companies they recovered.

Yes. It becomes a bit of difficulties. Because someone doesn't pay attention to spamming. <_<  But it is wonderful if someone can become billionaire due to spamming. :)

That is quite an interesting story. So spamming also has its own advantages.

    I´m sure they can.

Nearly every page with free listings/profiles you can spam by offering your own product or by stealing clients.

I´m sure there are even way more aggressive spamming methods possible but often close to illegal.

My theory is that most big companies have to start in some kind of way "blackhat". Nobody cares about a social plattform if there aren´t any profiles, so fake profiles/listings are very common. A classical example for me is the dating market. I don´t believe that any company can just buy traffik for 2$ a click, they have to use guerilla techniques.

I know some big poker affiliates that grow big by spamming forums with highly targetted traffik. I think the web forgives faster than people think.
